The governor of the US state of New York, Andrew Cuomo, issued an order on April 18 allowing remotely contract marriages. This was reported by the press service of the governor’s administration.
The document temporarily cancels the law, in which the personal presence of the bride and groom was necessary for the wedding.
Now civil servants have the right to hold wedding ceremonies through video conferencing, and the newlyweds will be able to get a marriage certificate remotely.
The order notes that due to the COVID-19 epidemic, most marriage registration bureaus were closed in the state, because of which residents could not receive documents on its conclusion.
