Seriously failing to be flamboyant, Nice won on the ground of Sheriff Tiraspol (0-1), this Thursday, during the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League Conference. A short but precious success for the Riviera club before the return leg in a week at the Allianz Riviera.
Amraoui a libr Nice Tiraspol.
Last French club in the running in a European competition, Nice respected its status by winning on the lawn of Sheriff Tiraspol (0-1), this Thursday, in the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League Conference.
Far from being flamboyant but solid enough to repel opposing offensives, the Aiglons took a serious option to reach the next round before the return leg scheduled in a week at the Allianz Riviera.
Amraoui’s very lucky goal
On a lawn in a catastrophic state, you should not expect to see a good game. And unsurprisingly, there was not much to put in your mouth. Muscular duels, clashes between players and even injuries due to the very rough surface, the two teams struggled to get closer to the opposing goal to put the goalkeepers to work.
Despite these difficult conditions, the Gym occupied the ground better and kept the Sheriff quite far from their surface even if Badolo gave a small thrill to Schmeichel on an unbalanced header. A very painful first act which could have ended badly for Dante, guilty of a nasty fault on Tapsoba. Before the break, Amraoui released the Aiglons on a cross-shot which found the opposite corner of Koval (0-1, 45th + 3).
Amount everywhere
A welcome goal for Nice since the second act was hardly more exciting. Less dominating, the Niois left the ball to the Moldavian team, who did not really know what to do with it. Only a misunderstanding between Todibo and Dante allowed Tapsoba to find Schmeichel’s small outside net, happy to see the bar repel a cross shot from the former Zohouri house.
Less imperial than at the start of the game, Nice sought shelter to tackle the return leg in ideal conditions. Dante could have allowed his side to leave Moldova with a two-goal lead, but his header from a corner hit the post late in the game. A short but precious victory for the Gym, very happy to see the referee disallow Zohouri’s goal for Radeljic’s offside. See you in a week to finish the job.
Match score: 4/10
Lawn in a pitiful state, gloomy atmosphere, more than average quality of play, we clearly did not enjoy this match. Only thinning, the superb goal, probably involuntary, of Amraoui, before the break. The Gym supporters will be satisfied with it.
The goal :
– Boudaoui recovers a high ball and serves Laborde in the axis. The Niois striker misses his gesture but the leather reaches Thuram, who shifts Amraoui, positioned in the left corner of the surface. The side places an overpowered center-shot in the opposite corner of Koval (0-1, 45th + 3).
Players’ NOTES
Maxifoot has assigned a score (out of 10) comments on each player.
Man of the match: Ayoub Amraoui (7/10)
A serious match for the left side of Niois. For his third professional appearance, he unlocked the game with a powerful cross shot before the break, finding Koval’s top corner. Only he knows if this gesture was voluntary but it is important enough to allow Nice to believe in a qualification for the next round.
NICE :
Kasper Schmeichel (6): the Danish goalkeeper didn’t have much to do but he did it well. He makes three saves in this part and can thank his bar on a center shot from Zohouri.
Jordan Lotomba (5): an average match for the Swiss right side. If he was in little danger, he brought almost nothing to his lane. Replace 79th minute with Youcef Atal (non not).
Youssouf Ndayishimiye (6.5): a solid encounter for the versatile Burundian midfielder. Placed in the right axis of the defense three, he won most of his duels with the Moldovan attackers. Only a loss of the ball on the hour mark tarnished his quality performance.
Jean-Clair Todibo (6.5): not much to report for the young central defender. The Toulouse-trained player performed well against Tapsoba despite a disagreement with Dante which could have cost his team dearly.
Dante (6): the Brazilian veteran has alternated the good and the less good. He cop of a vital yellow card before the break which will cause him to miss the return leg. In the second period, he had a moment of absence which could have benefited Tapsoba but finished much better with several hot interventions. He hits the post with his head from a corner.
Ayoub Amraoui (7): read comment above.
Pablo Rosario (5.5): a match too neutral for the Dutch midfielder. He took too few risks with too great a propensity to play backwards.
Hichem Boudaoui (6.5): a generally satisfactory copy for the Algerian midfielder, the origin of the recovery of the ball on the goal of Amraoui. Effective in his pressing, he nevertheless lowered his foot after the hour mark. Replaced in the 79th minute by Alexis Beka Beka (non not).
Khphren Thuram-Ulien (5): a tone below compared to his recent outings. Even if he sends the ball to Amraoui on the goal, he had a lot of waste in his passing and dribbling. Replace 79th minute with Bilal Brahimi (non not).
Gatan Laborde (3): a painful evening for the Niois striker. Not at all helped by the eye-catching turf, he struggled to distinguish himself against the Moldavian templates. Replace 79th minute with Badredrine Bouanani (not not).
Terem Moffi (3): a very frustrating match for the Nigerian striker who spent his evening running in a vacuum. The former Lorient player did not get the slightest opportunity.
