The Federal Association of German Industry (BDI) expects GDP growth in Germany to grow by 0.5 percent in 2020. A large part of this – around 80 percent – results from the comparatively high number of working days in 2020.
"The GDP increase of 0.5 percent is not a positive news," said BDI President Dieter Kempf in Berlin, "but a warning". The situation is particularly difficult for industry. "We are in a recession," said Kempf. The companies have been struggling with job cuts and falling production for more than a year.
Kempf called on the federal government to invest ten years. "The investment location Germany is in a tight spot because of the lack of funds – and because of excessive bureaucracy," said Kempf.
