44-year-old Ukrainian boxer Viktor Plotnikov became the owner of the WBU junior middleweight title.
In Dessau, Germany, an experienced Ukrainian entered the ring against local boxer Ronnie Gabel.
Already in the starting round, Plotnikov knocked down the champion. Victor dominated throughout the fight until the final gong.
It seemed that the Ukrainian boxer would win by unanimous decision, but the judges issued a scandalous verdict – a draw, which left the German boxer with the championship belt.
Fortunately, after the fight, a special commission of the WBU intervened in the situation, forcing them to reconsider the result of the fight. An error was announced by one of the judges, who scored 114-114 instead of 114-113 in favor of the Ukrainian.
After discussion with the WBU and commission on the result, overturned! The 114-114 scored is actually 114-113 in favor from the Carpenters. Viktor Plotnikov is driving around in the 12th battle of a small streak dating back to 2015 and is new WBU champion! https://t.co/aAf8w6ZBML pic.twitter.com/6GY7wAp8wu
