Nuclear power plant under fire. Zelensky: Russia threatens the whole world

Enerhoatom reported that three power lines were disconnected as a result of the missile fire.

“All three reactors of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant are operating in normal mode. None of the employees of the plant has suffered” – added in a statement published on the Telegram website.

The firing of the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant in the Mykolaiv Oblast by the Russian army was commented on by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

“During the night, the missile fell 300 meters from the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant. There was a short-term disconnection of the power line. The windows in the buildings at the plant are damaged. The occupants wanted to shoot again, but forgot what a nuclear power plant is,” Zelenskiy wrote in Telegram.

He then added: “Russia threatens the entire world. It must be stopped until it is too late.”

On Saturday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that thanks to the repair of the power line, the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, occupied by the Russian army, is once again connected to the Ukrainian grid.

The line provides the energy needed to cool the reactors and other essential safety functions of the power plant.

All main lines were damaged as a result of hostilities. About 500 Russian soldiers are stationed on the site of the power plant. The invading troops fired on the gym several times, creating a risk of the release of radioactive substances. Moscow has always accused Kyiv of these incidents.

All reactors of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant are shut down, but they still need energy to perform their safety functions. From September 5, the power plant does not produce energy for external recipients, such as households or factories, emphasizes the IAEA.

A week ago, the Ukrainian company Enerhoatom announced the shutdown of the last operating block of the power plant as part of safety measures. Previously, the block produced energy only for the needs of the power plant.
