That the harvest of winter crops was good is already known. Now he has official figures. It is confirmed that rapeseed exceeded 300,000 hectares, more than double the area of 2021, a historical record yield for wheat, three years in a row with barley yields above 4,000 kilos, something that also happens for the first time.
Uruguay’s winter crop area had never exceeded 700,000 hectares, and reached 756,000. Production had never reached 2.5 million tons, and last year it totaled 2.77 million.
Overall, record area and production of winter crops. Three years of Niña showed how favorable the even cold weather was for these crops and the moderation in rainfall, but they also show the impact of the new genetics, the sowings on time and the generous fertilization even in a year of very high prices for the nitrogen.
