Investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee (SK) for the Stavropol Territory opened a criminal case against a pediatrician at a city hospital in Stavropol, suspected that the violations committed during the examination led to the death of a one-year-old child.
According to the investigation, in September 2017 a woman filed a complaint with the registry of the State Children’s Clinical Hospital “City Children’s Clinical Polyclinic No. 2 in the city of Stavropol” complaining of a wet cough and changing the skin of her one-year-old son. On the same day, the pediatrician on duty came on call to the house, collected a brief anamnesis of the child’s illness, inspected it and diagnosed “SARS: acute laryngitis. Stenosis 0 degree “, appointing treatment.
“At the same time the doctor assured the woman that there are no reasons for concern, as well as the need for hospitalization. Two days later, the boy was hospitalized in a hospital with stenosis of the third degree larynx. Despite the resuscitation, the child died on the same day. These consequences became possible as a result of the violations committed by the doctor during a primary examination of the child, who needed immediate hospitalization, “the RF SC said.
On this fact a criminal case was instituted under Part 2 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code (causing death by negligence).
According to the data provided by the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the number of criminal cases related to poor medical care has increased significantly lately. In 2012, there were 2,100 complaints to the UK due to poor medical care, for which 311 criminal cases were initiated. And in 2017 was considered already 6,050 such applications, according to which investigators opened 1,791 criminal cases.
