In order not to leave the followers in uncertainty, Viktor Orbán revealed on social media who he supports. I’ll tell you right away, but a short round ahead.
It is not at all obvious who Orbán is currently supporting, because he changes his current favorite team quite often.
In 2008, he stated that “I prefer Latin football myself”, he has also said elsewhere that Spanish football is close to him.
Before the 2010 World Cup, he believed in the Argentinians, just don’t let them be brutal: “It wouldn’t be against me, I’d rather put it this way, and my heart and mind don’t have to go in two directions here, if the Argentinians win, provided that they don’t they play such a brutal, irregular game, as they sometimes do, and they don’t kick their opponents to the brain, but they come out with a beautiful game worthy of their skills, then an Argentine victory would not be against my liking”.
In 2018, he made a surprising statement, revealing afterwards that he supported Peru. He said he’s been a fan of them since he was a kid, but Peru didn’t make it to the finals for 36 years after 1982. When this happened in 2014, Orbán returned to his childhood favorite. After Peru was quickly eliminated, Orbán switched to the Croatians who reached the final before the final, feeling their progress as his own.
“Hungary has always been part of the football culture along the Danube. Of course, the success of the Croatians belongs to the Croatians, but we feel that we are also part of it, since it is also the glory of the region, even if the Croatian flag has to be raised high now. And I support with all my heart, not only because the Croatians are our friends and neighbors, but because they represent the football culture to which we also belong, even if we no longer reach, or even come close to, the level that the Croatians are capable of . But it’s still our dog’s puppy.”
We also wrote about how our dog’s puppy is the Croatian World Cup silver medalist at the time, let’s say not really.
The Croatians are still on the ball, we still aren’t, after – although the performance of the Hungarian national team is improving, but – we lost back and forth against Albania.
On the other hand, Orbán did not choose the Croatians, nor a South American team, but, surprisingly, Serbia.
This is the team that the majority of Russian fans will be rooting for after Putin’s war caused their team to be kicked out of the World Cup. There is a traditionally strong relationship between the Russians and the Serbs anyway, and this was reinforced by an action in front of the stadium so that the fans could find each other. According to surveys, the case is doing well.
But it may just be that the Order of Merit of the Republic of Serbia decided who Orbán is pushing for

While Orbán’s team selection changes regularly, one thing is certain: he has a permanent place in the VIP box. It is already known that the Prime Minister does not deal with serious human rights criticism of Qatar, and that he will travel to the World Cup this year as well.
