Orchestral Concert – Mozart: Father, Son, Rival

Varied Mozart program of the chamber orchestra with lute and bagpipes

The chamber orchestra of the Seligenstadt town band, conducted by Roman Zöller, will perform this year with wind instruments and special instruments (hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes) on Saturday, October 15, 2022 under the motto “Mozart – father – son – rival” at 7.30 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Marien in Seligenstadt.

For the first time since the pandemic, wind instruments in the chamber orchestra of the Stadtkapelle are participating in this exciting concert motto. While oboes and horns are typical instruments for these classical works, exotic instruments are also used in Leopold Mozart’s “Peasant Symphony”, which, however, make up the special sound appeal of this composition. A hurdy-gurdy or bagpipes are more of an instrument that one would expect to find at a medieval market, but the father of the famous child prodigy used precisely these instruments in his “peasant work” and interwoven them tonally with the other strings and wind instruments.

One of Mozart’s rivals is Antonio Salieri, who lived at the same time as Mozart and was portrayed in a very exaggerated way in the famous film “Amadeus”. A “Sinfonia Veneziana” is planned by Salieri and it is up to the listener to be won over by this composer’s art of composition.

Of course, there are also 2 works by the great classical master himself on the program. A multi-movement divertimento sounds like an overture, and the concert concludes with the youthfully fresh Symphony No. 29 in A major, KV 201.

If you do not have time on October 15, 2022, there is another opportunity to hear the repeat of this concert the next day (Sun. October 16, 2022) at 5:00 p.m. in the Church of St. Marien in Offenbach (Bieberer Straße 55).
