In Germany, organ donations are still only permitted with explicit consent. The Bundestag on Thursday rejected an initiative by a group of MPs led by Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) to reverse this principle. She had proposed a double contradiction solution, according to which – as in Austria – every citizen should be considered a donor unless he or she objects.
However, the bill did not find a majority. 379 MPs voted against, 292 parliamentarians supported him, 3 abstained.
Then, at second reading, Parliament approved a draft that was brought in by a group led by Greens leader Annalena Baerbock and left chair Katja Kipping. It essentially adheres to the applicable law. He suggests that all citizens be asked to donate organs at least once every ten years.
