Representatives of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health reported that during the period from February 1 to October 9, 2018, 230 measles facts were recorded in Belarus. Overwhelmingly, these are imported cases and episodes of contact with sick persons.
The ministry noted that most of the facts of the disease are related to the stay of Belarusians in Ukraine. In addition, there are cases of Ukrainians who came to our country. However, 85% of all cases were not vaccinated against measles or were not fully vaccinated.
It is reported that the coverage of preventive vaccinations among the child population is more than 98%. At the same time, a person who has been vaccinated against measles has a rather low chance of getting sick. Even if such a person becomes ill, vaccination will help to prevent death, complications, and the disease will be more mild.
The national calendar assumes preventive vaccinations against measles at 1 year and at 6 years. Protection provide just two vaccinations. Vaccinations are free of charge. At the same time, an adult can also be vaccinated.
