Patrick Henry made a new application for release

Patrick Henry, 64 years of age with forty years in prison for the murder of a child, will formulate a new request for parole, among other things for health reasons, said his lawyer on Friday. His previous application had been dismissed on may 31, 2016.

Patrick Henry has been hospitalized since Monday, may 15 for a “lung pathology severe” in a secure unit of the hospital of the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital (Paris), has informed Me Hugo Lévy.

“It would be better for his health that he does not depend on the contingencies of transfer of the prison administration between detention centres, where the treatments are needy”, and this hospital unit specialist, he indicated.

The lawyer ensured that her client had “all the guarantees” in terms of accommodation or prospect of employment.

Sentenced to life in prison in 1977

Sentenced in 1977 to life in prison, one of the oldest prisoners in France, a symbol in its time of struggle against the death penalty, had been released for the first time in 2001.

But he was back behind bars after he was arrested in 2002 in Spain with 10 pounds of cannabis.

Patrick Henry has since submitted several requests for release on parole, the last of which had been accepted in January 2016 by the court of the application of sentences of Melun, before being dismissed a few weeks later by the Paris court of appeal.
