TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) said that there was a political interest in defense in the process of selecting a candidate for the Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad).
PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said this defense policy was important to ensure the sustainability of Indonesia as a country. Therefore, PDIP views that the selection of the candidate for officers is entirely the right of President Joko Widodo and the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces.
“Especially with the various tensions in the South China Sea, it increasingly requires a consolidation work to strengthen all aspects of the country’s resilience. This is the PDI-P’s concern regarding the names that will be decided and we leave it entirely to the president,” said Hasto at the PDIP Party School, Jakarta. , Monday, January 17, 2022.
Hasto said that the current vacant position of the Kostrad Commander was indeed very strategic. However, the vacant position does not mean that President Jokowi and the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa do not yet have a strong candidate name.
“It doesn’t mean that his position will become vacant. But the process that has been carried out between President Joko Widodo and the TNI Commander and the Army Chief of Staff has narrowed down regarding who will be decided to fill the strategic position,” said Hasto.
Previously, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa, revealed that there was already a candidate for Pangkostrad. According to him, there are many candidates who will fill the position.
They were officers who had the rank of three- and two-star general. “Candidates for the Commander of Kostrad in the Army, then Pangkohanudnas in the Air Force, three stars as well as the Commander of the Koarmada in the Navy. These are all eligible two stars. Each of these are candidates,” said Andika.
Therefore, the TNI Commander stated that the position of the Kostrad Commander was just waiting for a decision from the Council for High Ranks and Positions (Wanjakti) of the TNI Headquarters. Andika said that the Pangkostrad candidate would be announced this week.
