A source told the Sunday Mail that Charles recognizes that House Windsor suffered "many traumas and crises and many divorces," as did the Markle family.
But he was impressed with how well Meghan coped with her family's outbreaks.
A royal insider said, "Because there was bad behavior that caused problems in his family, Charles understands how difficult it must be for Meghan.
"And it made her even more popular."
In fact, the Prince of Wales took Meghan down the hall during her royal wedding in May instead of her absent father.
Another royal source compared the two royals in their reaction to their very public family battles.
They said, "Whatever they felt in, they both showed a strong public face and did not hide."
The two also share a common love of the arts.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also liked Meghan very much, not least because both joined the royal family from the outside.
Camilla seems to care about Meghan and get to know her.
Meghan's relationship with her father-in-law allegedly inspired Prince Harry.
The bride and groom spent some time with Charles in the Castle of Mey, the remote home of the deceased Queen Mother in Caithness.
The Prince of Wales told friends that he was "pink tickled" when they accepted his invitation.
They did coastal walks and bird watching together in one week, which the heir apparently described as "joyous."
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were also invited, but refused.
