After a fire in an apartment building in Bremen, the criminal police have started investigations into serious arson. The fire broke out on Friday afternoon for an initially unknown reason in an apartment on the second floor in the Huchting district, the police said on Saturday. Two children aged six and ten, who were alone in the apartment at the time, were taken outside in good time by other residents. A 42-year-old resident on the third floor was evacuated by firefighters. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The police began investigating the cause of the fire, secured evidence and interviewed witnesses. The ten-year-old boy told the police that an “unspecified object” had been thrown through the open window by a stranger and set a bed on fire, officials said. A police spokesman said there was no evidence of a political or racially motivated act.
