Polish cinema between art house and genre, history and politics – FilmFestival Cottbus

Between Arthaus and Netflix production, the current Polish cinema repeatedly takes on socially controversial topics.

It skilfully combines auteur films and genre, building bridges between art house and commercial cinema. Streaming providers and TV stations such as TVN are becoming important players alongside state film subsidies. This results in new synergies and perspectives for producers and filmmakers, but also a competitive situation with traditional cinema and festivals. On the occasion of the section “Polskie Horyzonty” at the FilmFestival Cottbus, producers and festival directors will discuss – How is the Polish film landscape changing, and to what extent are these changes a pilot project for other European countries?
