Pope Francis creates 21 new cardinals

After the Regina Coeli prayer this Sunday, May 29, Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, Pope Francis announced that a consistory will take place on August 27 for the creation of 21 new cardinals.

Here are the names of the new cardinals, among whom five are over 80 years old:

It should be noted that Jorge Enrique Jiménez Carvajal; Lucas VanLooy; Arrigo Miglio; P. Gianfranco Ghirlanda and Bishop Fortunato Frezza are over 80 years old, so they will not be able to vote in a future conclave.

Currently, the College of Cardinals is made up of 117 voting cardinals and 91 non-electors.
