Possible merger of KMSKA, M HKA and Mu.ZEE arouses unrest in the arts sector, Minister Jambon: “Raising museums to a higher level”

According to Jambon, the exercise is not just a cost saving or a way to curtail the museums. “The scenarios on the table have only one goal, to take our museums to a higher level. We want a place in the European top.”

An example for the Flemish government is the interaction between the classical museum Tate Britain and the contemporary museum Tate Modern in London. But Luk Lemmens of the KMSKA contrasts this with the comparison with the Louvre and Center Pompidou in Paris. “If you had to imagine merging those two museums in Paris, that would also be difficult.”
