The Premier League has announced the list of eight players eligible for the annual Player of the Year awards. Surprisingly, two big names have been knocked off this list.

Mané and Ronaldo absent: Liverpool’s Sadio Mané and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo have not been nominated for the eight-man Premier League shortlist for player of the season voting – despite a stellar season. The two top clubs Manchester City and Liverpool have each been nominated twice – with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold (both Liverpool) as well as Kevin De Bruyne and Joao Cancelo (both Manchester City).

Strong Values: Ronaldo was a bright spot in United’s dismal season with 18 goals in 30 league games and was also voted two-time Premier League player of the month. Mané has also been convincing, scoring 15 goals in 33 league games this season while the LFC are on their way to an unprecedented quad.

Vote until Monday: The other candidates on the list are Bukayo Saka (Arsenal FC), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton FC), Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur) and Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United). Fans can vote for their favorite until Monday night. The votes are combined with those of the 20 club captains and a jury of football experts to determine the winner.
