On the first stop of his official visit to the Russian Federation, President Bashar al-Assad and his accompanying delegation visited yesterday the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow, and laid a wreath at the memorial in the Alexander Garden in the Red Square.
President al-Assad was received at the shrine by General Evgeny Seleznev, commander of the Moscow garrison, and director of ceremonies for the Russian Foreign Ministry. A reception ceremony was held for him, including a review of the guard of honor, while the official orchestra played the melody of the unknown soldier and the national anthem of the Syrian Arab Republic, according to the Presidency of the Republic in Statement published by “SANA” agency.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier symbolizes martyrdom in defense of the homeland, as well as the cities whose people showed examples of heroism in defending it.
The delegation accompanying President al-Assad includes Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Miqdad, Minister of Presidency Affairs Mansour Azzam, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Muhammad Samer al-Khalil, General Ali Abbas, Minister of Defense, Minister of Finance Kinan Yaghi, Head of the State Planning Authority Fadi al-Khalil and Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Qais Khedr. The Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Luna Al-Shibl, and the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to Moscow, Bashar Al-Jaafari.
