During a visit to Cambridgeshire on Thursday, Prince William and Princess Kate saw their first official portrait. The work was commissioned in 2021 by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund, managed by the Cambridge Community Foundation. Its author is the award-winning portraitist Jamie Coreth.
The first official portrait of Prince William and Princess Kate was presented
According to People magazine, Prince William and Princess Kate stopped at the Fitzwilliam Museum of the University of Cambridge in the very center of the city, where they had the opportunity to see the finished painting for the first time. The painting is intended as a gift for the residents of their home county of Cambridgeshire.
The author of the work did not hide his emotions and pride for the honor that befell him:
It was the most extraordinary privilege of my life that I was chosen to paint this picture. I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in such a way that they appear to be both relaxed and approachable, and elegant and dignified, ‘he said.
In the painting, Duchess Kate was portrayed in a metallic dress in bottle green, while Prince William in a dark suit with a blue tie. Jamie Coreth emphasized that he wanted to maintain a balance in the presentation of the spouses both in the official and personal context:
As this is the first portrait to portray them together as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the painting to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives – we read the painter’s statement on People.
The artist also hoped that the people of Cambridgeshire would like the painting as much as he did.
