On January 6 this year, the US Congress building, the Capitol, was stormed. Now the first prison sentence has been handed down for the attack.
The 38-year-old Paul Hodgkins from the state of Florida is sentenced to eight months in prison. He pleaded guilty in June to obstructing an official gathering. The prosecutor had demanded that he be sentenced to one and a half years in prison.
Hodgkins has said he regrets his actions.
More than 500 people have been singled out for being involved in the storm. So far, 17 people have pleaded guilty.
Five people, including a police officer, lost their lives in the attack.
