Producer and actor Hans Cornelissen knighted at own premiere | Stars

Cornelissen has been knighted for his great and important contributions to the Dutch cultural sector. As a producer, he was responsible for musical hits such as Hoping for the best, The Fabeltjeskrant, The Full Monty on Lisbeth. This season, his company produces next to Titanic – including René van Kooten, Wieneke Remmers, Dennis Willekens and Mariska van Kolck – the new musical versions of The Rocky Horror Show on The Prom. As an actor, Cornelissen became best known in the eighties thanks to his role as Gert Jan van der Ploeg in megahit Tell us Aaa.

Cornelissen feels honored that he has been appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Although a royal award was the last thing he expected, the theater producer said in a statement. “I consider this award a huge honor, but I have never done it alone. I work with talent outside and within our beautiful company and with my home front. I would never have accomplished this without them.”

The theater maker started the production company De Graaf & Cornelissen Entertainment in 2001 with Ruud de Graaf. De Graaf is also proud. “These are anything but easy times for the theaters, but Hans never gives up,” he says about his partner. “He always looks ahead and at what is possible and uses his creativity, energy and passion to produce innovatively and at a high level every time! He also knows how to enthuse (young) talent, his employees, our colleagues and crew time and time again. The theater world cannot do without people like Hans Cornelissen.”
