The Pletterij program for June 2022 is as follows:

JUNE 1 INTERVIEW WITH MUSICIAN ALEKSEY GORBUNOV
Jan Hoekema will talk to Ukrainian singer and guitarist Aleksey Gorbunov on Wednesday 1 June. 7 JUNE VERHALENRESTAURANT
Tuesday 7 June there will be another Story restaurant. Every first Tuesday of the month, up to five people can tell a story on a small stage. It should not be longer than 10 minutes and should be about a predetermined theme. This time: I’m going on holiday and take with me…. The story is accompanied by a musician.

7 JUNE DEBATE HAARLEMSE MEDIA
Tuesday 7 June a debate in the Pletterij with Haarlem organizations and journalists about the attention for specific Haarlem problems or issues. Do the media pay enough attention to certain topics? Civil society organizations are trying to get journalists interested in a publication on this evening. If necessary, an appeal can be made to the Haarlem Media Fund, which subsidizes research projects. Writer-journalist Frenk van der Linden, ambassador of the Media Fund, will lead the evening.

JUNE 8 EXPO CARTOONS: THE UNMASKED POWER
The opening of the cartoon exhibition De unmasked power will take place in the Pletterij on 8 June at 8 pm. There will be work by various artists/cartoonists, such as Jonathan Zapiro from South Africa, Ramón Esono Ebalé from Equatorial Guinea and Pedro Molina from Nicaragua.
Pedro Molina opens the exhibition. He is known for his cartoons about the dictatorial rule of President Daniel Ortega in his country. He has now fled. During the evening, the situation in Nicaragua is central. Proceeds from ticket sales go to help political prisoners.
Related to the exhibition in the Pletterij is a second cartoon exhibition in the Haarlem Provincial House. Until the end of August, the work of various artists/cartoonists from around the world can be seen there, with their caustic commentary on the oppression in their country.
This exhibition will also be opened on June 8 at 4.30 pm in the Provincial House, Houtplein 3 in Haarlem by journalist Frénk van der Linden. He will talk to the cartoonists Hossein Rezaei (Afghanistan), Pedro Molina (Nicaragua) and the curators of the exhibition, Anita Brus, Dik Bol and Tjeerd Royaards.

9 JUNE LECTURE: UKRAINE, BORDER LAND BETWEEN EAST AND WEST
On Thursday 9 June, writer/investigative journalist Els de Groen will give a lecture on the special position of Ukraine in Europe.
Ukraine literally means borderland. The border between countries with a democracy and a dictatorship. A buffer state that absorbs the blows from the east, but is focused on the west. De Groen wrote ten books about Eastern Europe and was a member of the European Parliament for a number of years. Starts at 8 p.m., tickets 3 euros. Can also be followed via live stream.

13 JUNE MUSIC/DISCUSSION WITH FIE SCHOUTEN, among others
Philomeen Lelieveldt (music histock pletterstoricus) will speak with Ruud Roelofsen (composer/percussionist), Bart van Dongen (musician/composer) and Fie Schouten (clarinet) on Monday 13 June about performing compositions several times. Necessary or not? Schouten and Van Dongen will also perform a new version of Ambiversion (Tera de Marez Oyens).

14 JUNE UKRAIN REFUGEES IN HAARLEM
According to the latest figures, the Kennemerland region receives about 3000 Ukrainian refugees, both in reception locations and with host families. Many refugees are children of compulsory school age. How does Haarlem organize an appropriate form of education for these children? There will be a debate on this subject in the Pletterij on Tuesday 14 June. One of the points of discussion: is the focus on staying, integration and learning the Dutch language or on return, lessons in their own language or in English? Starts at 8 p.m. Admission 3 euros

15 JUNI INTERVIEW MET AYDIN ​​KARAMAN

JUNE 24 JAPONE ARTISTS (MUSIC & THEATER)
On Friday 24 June, the Japanese music & theater group Japone Artists will perform in the Pletterij. The group was founded in 2016 by the soprano/singer Utako Arakawa from Haarlem and consists of eight Japanese musicians, dancers and a visual artist. They bring a mix of traditional Japanese and classical music, modern and traditional dance, theater and visual arts.
Three members of the group will participate in this performance: Utako Arakawa (vocals), Ayumi Matsuda (flute) and Yusuke Morita (bass guitar). † The program is the try out for their performance at the Hyper Japan event in London.
