The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation appealed to the court with a demand to transfer the property of the former head of the Republic of Mari El, Leonid Markelov, who is currently accused of taking a bribe, to the state’s income, reports TASS with reference to the official representative of the Prosecutor’s Office Alexander Kurenno.
With a positive court decision, the property of the former official for a total amount of more than half a billion rubles, a residential complex located in a nature protection zone, apartments and other premises in Mari El and Moscow, which Markelov acquired for income from dubious sources, will go to the state’s income.
The Prosecutor General’s Office transferred 120 properties, as well as eight and a half million rubles, 224 thousand US dollars and 660 thousand euros in cash.
Recall that Leonid Markelov wrote an application resigned in April 2017. In the same month, the Moscow Basmanny court arrested the ex-official on suspicion of receiving 235 million rubles as a bribe. According to investigators, for this money Markelov intended to patronize and assist in receiving payments from state support for the development of an agricultural complex for one of the factories. In addition, the investigation imposes the illegal acquisition and storage of ammunition.
At the end of last year, representatives of the RF IC announced the completion of the investigation of the criminal case against Leonid Markelov and his accomplices. The case will essentially be considered by the court in Nizhny Novgorod.
