Darmstadt (dpa/lhe) – – Because of a poison attack on members of the Technical University of Darmstadt, a woman is standing before the Darmstadt Regional Court from Tuesday (9:00 a.m.). The 33-year-old from Mainz is accused of attempted insidious murder. However, she is considered to be mentally ill, so it is a security procedure. The chamber is now examining whether the accused was incapacitated due to illness at the time of the crime and whether she needs to be placed permanently in a psychiatric facility.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the German was enrolled in the Materials Science department. Because of her mental illness, she is said to have believed that she was being threatened. That’s why she wanted to kill the alleged perpetrators.

According to the investigators, she poisoned food with a chemical in two tea kitchens and other rooms in a building on the Lichtwiese campus in August 2021. Seven people who later consumed these foods suffered from health problems, including symptoms of poisoning. A 30-year-old was briefly in mortal danger.

Around 150 people have been invited to the proceedings, including witnesses and experts. For the time being, 16 days of negotiations are scheduled until February 6, 2023.
