dr On June 1, Rainer Sommer (50) will become a member of the Management Board of Provincial Holding AG and the subsidiaries Provincial Versicherung AG, Provincial Nord Brandkasse AG, Provincial Northwest Life Insurance AG and Provincial Rhineland Life Insurance AG. The company announced this on Friday evening.

The manager will be responsible for the contract service (composite) and claims departments as well as for the technological development of the group. It is said that this bundling should further promote the uniformity, simplicity and speed of processes.
The aim is to meet the developments in customer and sales partner expectations even better and to further strengthen competitiveness.
The actuarial responsibility and uniform overall management of the property/casualty business will continue to lie with Sabine Krummenerl, who is responsible for the composite business. The manager has held this position since the merger of the provincial companies (VersicherungsJournal July 29, 2020).
Sommer came to the insurance company through IT consulting
Sommer (50) founded an IT company while he was still doing his doctorate in mathematics, then joined an IT consulting company as a manager and then switched to Boston Consulting Group GmbH.
In 2007 he went to Zurich Group in Switzerland and two years later became Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Zurich Middle East GI in Dubai. In 2012, he returned to Germany as the Group’s Chief Information Technology Officer and Managing Director of an IT subsidiary.
In 2015, the manager switched to Generali Insurance as COO Europe/Middle East/Africa and after a few months took over the COO function for the entire German group (April 27, 2015). At the end of last year he left Generali (November 8, 2022).
