Russian President Vladimir Putin said that unemployment is one of the main problems in the country and it is necessary to pay attention to the labor market. He announced this during a video conference with the Governor of the Rostov Region Vasily Golubev. Her transcript was published on the Kremlin website.

The governor acknowledged that the unemployment rate in the region has risen. “From the conclusions that we draw on the current situation, we really jumped out of real unemployment – more than 96 thousand people (4.6%)”, – said Golubev. At the same time, he noted that earlier the unemployment rate in the Rostov region was not higher than the national average.

Golubev added that the authorities are taking measures to “maximize the launch of those mechanisms that allow people to work.” According to the governor, there are now about 46 thousand vacancies in the region, but also a high coefficient of tension in the labor market. “Therefore, we will look for new solutions. I think this is the most important task for us, we will make efforts to reverse the situation here, ”Golubev said.

In July 2020, the unemployment rate in Russia rose to 6.3% of the labor force from 6.2% in the previous month, Rosstat said in its report on the socio-economic situation on August 20. Compared to July last year, the number of unemployed in Russia increased by 40.6%. Since March, when the coronavirus epidemic began in Russia, the number of unemployed has increased by 36%, or 1.25 million people, Rosstat points out.
