Qatar Airways signs agreement with Italy Airlines


DOHA – Qatar Airways has signed a joint code agreement with Italy Airlines, with the agreement coming into effect on April 24 .
Qatar Airways’ national airline code for Qatar flights between Italy’s Malpensa airport and Italy’s six destinations is Catania, Rome, Naples, Olbia, Palermo and Calabria, the airline said in a statement on Tuesday. .
The agreement also applies to Italian flights between Rome Fiumicino Airport and Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport .
Qatar Airways launched its flights to Italy in 2002 with the first flights from Doha to Milan. One year later, the airline launched direct flights to Rome and added Venice to its route network in 2011 and Pisa in 2016. .
Qatar Airways currently operates 42 flights a week between its headquarters at Hamad International Airport in Doha and 4 destinations in Italy .
With the new code-sharing agreement, the airline’s code will be shown on Qatar Airways’ flights to Italy, Singapore and Maldives .
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the agreement provides many new destinations for Qatari passengers, noting that the agreement highlights the strong economic relations between Qatar and Italy .
Last year, Qatar Airways announced the acquisition of a 49% stake in ACA Holding, the new Italian airline, known as Meridiana, but announced a new identity in February, coinciding with the announcement of a new phase. Of growth and expansion .
Italy now aims to operate 50 aircraft by 2022, of which 20 are Boeing 737 Max, which will begin receiving from April this year .
Qatar Airways currently offers air freight through cargo space in passenger aircraft to and from Milan, Rome, Venice and Pisa. Qatar Airways also operates 7 weekly cargo flights to Milan.
