Doha Qatar, known for its rich natural gas and oil reserves, relies on solar energy. The Arab country signed an agreement with the French Total Group and the Japanese company Marubeni on Sunday for the construction of a solar power project with an output of around 800 megawatts (MW).

The project cost around 1.7 billion riyals (just under 410 million euros), Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi, who is also head of Qatar Petroleum (QP), said at a press conference in Doha. Full capacity should be reached in 2022.
