Zapping Our Mondial Gareth Bale’s best moments
After Newcastle last season, it is Manchester United that seems to attract the greed of the Middle East. A group of Qatari investors are indeed in the process of buying the Mancunian club. They are expected to put together a bid for United in the coming days, ahead of the Glazers’ mid-February deadline, and seem confident their bid will outperform the competition.
The aim would be to bring Manchester United back to the top by allowing them to be able to compete with the richest clubs in the world. (It’s true that until now they were financially picking up…). The current owners of Man UTD are expecting £6billion. Moreover, the idea of renovating or downright demolishing Old Trafford has been around for a while now. It could cost another 2 billion. The Qatari group claimed that this was not a problem.
That said, it is true that the Mancunians have been floundering for ten years. Their last coronation dates back to 2013 and apart from a Europa League won in 2017, the Reds Devils have only had a few FA Cups to put in their mouths…
“There are significant funds available […] These people are serious. They want to make sure United are where they should be and they are confident their offer will be the best.”
This takeover would further poison the Manchester derbies, since the citizens have been under the Saudi flag since 2008.
In any case if there is a takeover, the Premier League will still have to approve this takeover. Apparently, Qatar’s Emir, leader of the absolute monarchy, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is a big United fan and knows the club’s history well. This is something to reassure everyone…
To sum up
Manchester United seems to attract the lusts of the Middle East. A group of Qatari investors are indeed in the process of buying the Mancunian club. The aim would be to bring Manchester United back to the top by allowing them to be able to compete with the richest clubs in the world.
