And Snapdragon will continue its career as a stand-alone brand.
Qualcomm has officially announced a new generation of Snapdragon sets, at least as far as nomenclature is concerned. On the one hand, Snapdragon will become a stand-alone brand that includes mobile platforms, and on the other hand, the new generation of the top set will be given a completely different name from the current practice. Snapdragon 898 will be introduced as Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and its successor will arrive next year as Snapdragon 8 Gen2.
The changes also cover the logo and the use of color. The redesigned brand and the official visual representation of the Snapdragon brand will be dominated by Midnight, Nickel, Snapdragon Red and Gold, the latter color featuring exclusively the premium sets. The name change will also affect entry and mid-range kits, so each Snapdragon SoC will be referenced by a serial and generation number, and the 5G designation will no longer be used due to the increasing prevalence of the technology. THE Snapdragon 8 Gen1 will officially unveil the Qualcomm Tech Summiton scheduled for Nov. 30 next Tuesday.
