Chennai: Megastar Rajinikanth underwent surgery on Friday, October 29, 2021, after being admitted to a private hospital in Chennai, following complaints of dizziness on Thursday evening. According to the hospital, a panel of doctors examined Rajinikanth and successfully performed a “carotid artery revascularization” operation.
The megastar is recovering well from the procedure and should be discharged from the hospital in a few days.
Explained in layman’s terms, the carotid artery supplies oxygenated blood to the head and neck. A build-up of fatty substances that build up and stick to the walls of the arteries can narrow the carotid artery and cause health problems. The medical intervention undergone by the 70-year-old actor was aimed at removing the blockage in this artery and thus avoiding further problems.
Thusday, Rajinikanth’s publicist said the actor was in hospital for a regular check-up and may need to stay in the hospital for a day, under observation.
Rajinikanth had traveled to New Delhi earlier this week to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema over the past 45 years.
On Wednesday, the actor tweeted photos of his meetings with the Indian president and prime minister. On Thursday, he even shared social media posts that he watched a special screening of his next film, as a family.
The superstar awaits the release of his 168th film titled “Annaatthe”, which is due to hit the screens of Diwali.
