NEW YORK – Rapper Tekashi69, who was arrested in Rikers Island's contagious unit after being arrested in New York City for allegedly stifling a 16-year-old in a mall, was released on bail, it said Friday.
The news of his shelter and his bail was first reported by TMZ and confirmed by PIX11 news sources.
The 22-year-old Brooklyn rapper, whose name is Daniel Hernandez, is kept isolated in Rikers' infectious disease department.
Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was arrested in July 2018 on a Texas arrest warrant at Kennedy Airport.
The unit mainly accommodates inmates who are ill or prominent inmates who can not be kept in the general population. One source confirms that Tekashi69 can only contact law enforcement officers while behind bars.
It was possible that the rappers will take part in Rikers until his next hearing scheduled for July 20th. Then he is expected to be extradited to Texas to be charged.
On Friday he was granted a bail.
