RB Leipzig has not ticked off the championship yet! “If something else works, we want to be there!”

From Nico Zeißler

Bremen – “Last week the championship was gone, now should it be back?” Asked himself RB Leipzig Coach Julian Nagelsmann (33) after 4: 1 success at the SV Werder Bremen and the mistake of the FC Bayern Munich against Union Berlin (1:1). The gap is still five points, but the Saxons are not giving up yet.

“I still believe that the lead is very large and that Bavaria has never gambled it away in its history,” said Nagelsmann at Sky. “We have tough games ahead of us, even against teams from the top third. We try to win every game and be as successful as possible. In the end, we don’t have it in our own hands.”

After the 0: 1 a week ago in the summit against FC Bayern, critics suspected that RB could now give up in the face of seven points behind. The pursuers refuted that impressively on Saturday: “The drive is in us and you saw that today.”

Catching up five points in the six remaining games would be a big sensation. Everyone involved knows that. Bayern have to “leave a few points” so that things can get exciting for the Red Bulls again.

But the Saxons want to cling to this last straw. “We want to get the maximum number of points in the league,” said defender Willi Orban (28, Contract recently extended to 2025) the direction of march forward. “If something should work again, we want to be there. We have to do our job and we did that today.”

According to Orban, that would mean that the Saxons would have to get 18 points from the last six games. And thus, among other things, in the final sprint at Borussia Dortmund, against VfL Wolfsburg and at Union Berlin three-pointers would be needed. A difficult but not impossible undertaking.

But even the record champions have a simple remaining program with Wolfsburg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Alexander Sörloth completed his most successful match in the RB jersey in Bremen. The 25-year-old striker scored two goals to make it 3-0 at half-time and thus his first brace for the second in the table.

“Both of my goals were well prepared. Before the first, Christopher Nkunku sees me at the second post and I hit the ball well with the head. At the other goal, Willi Orban crosses between the defensive chain and the goalkeeper – that made it very easy for me. “

The Saxons have the on Friday (8.30 p.m. / DAZN) TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to guest. Time to start a run.
