Greece reacted to the decision to turn the Byzantine Kariye Museum into a mosque in Istanbul.
Making a written statement, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs used the words “A provocation against the whole international community that respects the monuments of the world civilization and the religious people all over the world.”
COUNSEL CANCELED ITS STATUS
Kariye, which was built in the 6th century, was turned into a museum with the decision of the Council of Ministers in 1945, and the decision of the Council of Ministers was annulled under the decision of the 10th Chamber of the Council of State on 11 November 2019.
With the President’s decision published in the Official Gazette today, it was decided to be transferred to the Kariye Directorate of Religious Affairs and to be opened for worship.
ONE MONTH AFTER AYASOFYA
The Kariye Museum was transferred to the Directorate of Religious Affairs and opened for worship as a mosque, one month after the decision to open Hagia Sophia to worship.
