Refereeing Department declares Standard wrong after Anderlecht goal

RSC Anderlecht drew 1-1 against Standard Liège. With the Purple & White goal, Standard wanted Yari Verschaeren’s goal to be disallowed, but the Refereeing Department does not agree.

At Standard they claimed hands from Refaelov at the goal and the goal should have been disallowed. The Israeli also touched the ball with his hand, but according to the Refereeing Department the goal was still valid.

“Since this season, the rule around hand play has been changed, whereby hand play that has accidentally come about via a teammate before scoring a goal is no longer punishable,” it explains on the official channels of the KBVB.

The Refereeing Department is therefore clear, to approve the goal was a correct decision by the referee. “The Professional Refereeing Department fully agrees with the referee’s decision to award the goal,” it concluded.
