KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. The government will place restrictions on purchases Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) 3 kilograms (kg) starting January 1, 2024. This policy aims to make the distribution of these subsidies right on target. However, until now it is still unclear whether these restrictions will be applied or not. This is because the government will still be discussing the appropriate scheme for these restrictions. Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) Febrio Nathan Kacaribu said, in determining the 3 kg LPG subsidy policy, the government must pay attention to developments in global commodity prices. <!– –> Read Also: Note This: Subsidized Melon Gas Purchases Are Limited Starting January 1, 2024 “In 2023 there is a chance for commodity prices as high as 2022 to still exist. This is good news for us and the state budget. Apart from seeing that prices are a helper for our subsidies to be lower, we will also use this to improve the system,” said Febrio in a discussion agenda with BKF, Wednesday (31/5). He said, in the next few weeks, his party together with the People’s Representative Council (DPR) would discuss how the subsidy scheme, including 3 kg LPG next year, would be right on target. “Because we want this subsidy to be used by the right people, especially the poor and vulnerable. This will be our discussion with the DPR in the next few weeks,” he added. As for quoting the 2024 Macroeconomic Framework (KEM) and Principles of Fiscal Policy (PPKF), the current volatility in commodity prices will potentially burden the state budget. So that the implementation of subsidy policy reform needs to be done carefully.
