Rise in absences among healthcare workers since the end of March

The number of healthcare workers absent due to COVID has been on the rise again since the end of March, reports Radio-Canada.

According to data from the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), the milestone of 5,000 absent workers was reached this week. Among these absentees are confirmed cases of COVID-19, people being screened and on preventive absences.

During the second wave, a peak of 8,000 people absent had been reached in the health network.

The National Institute of Public Health estimates that nursing assistants are twice as likely to be infected as other healthcare workers, compared to 1.2 times more among nurses.
