19-year-old Holger Rune admits his attitude isn’t perfect at times, but he believes he has time to mature and grow just like Roger Federer. Earlier in his career, Federer struggled with on-pitch anger, but now he’s seen as one of the calmest and most collected players on the tour.
“If you saw Roger Federer as a youngster, he was maybe 40 times worse than me back then – and he’s one of the most popular tennis players on the tour, so I think I’ve got plenty of time to get an even better picture ” said Rune to Ekstra Bladet.
Rune: Sometimes I show too much passion
After losing to Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals of the French Open, Rune gave the Norwegian a cold handshake. When asked about it, Ruud said Rune was just mad because he told him on the pitch there was no need to check every mark.
“I have an extreme passion for this sport and sometimes I show it too much. But I’m 19, I’m young and I work every day to bring out only the positive in my attitude and it’s a process,” Rune said.
Some think Rune often crosses the line, but the Dane thinks there’s nothing wrong with being a little different. “I just see it as differences, and I think that’s beautiful. If all people were the same and thought the same, it would be terrible to live in this world.
It’s cool that you think what you want and you like the character you like,” Rune said. “Fortunately, I have a lot of good Danish fans and supporters who follow my career and want the best for me, and I really appreciate that.” Rune is now ready to play at Eastbourne for the first time in his career. Rune meets Ryan Peniston in the first round of Eastbourne.
