Roofing company boss dies in gas explosion in Deerlijk

The incident took place around 09:00 on Wednesday along the Vichtesteenweg in Belgiek, a hamlet of Deerlijk in the province of West Flanders. “A roofer noticed that something was wrong with a gas cylinder that was in the back of his truck. He and a passenger decided to park the vehicle and go take a look. The gas cylinder then exploded. One person was killed and another seriously injured.”

The prosecution descended on the scene. The explosion which startled many residents also damaged some buildings. “Seventeen residents were welcomed to the nearby fire station until they were allowed to return home.”, said the men of the fire.

The roadway where the explosion occurred will remain closed until late afternoon, the municipality said.
