Muscat: Oman’s ruler Sultan Haitham bin Tariq has called for a diplomatic and political solution to the Russia – Ukraine war. He met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is in Oman on an official visit, at the Al Barakah Palace.
The Sultan demanded that international law be adhered to, that bloodshed be avoided and that humanitarian aspects be taken into account, and that the co-operation, freedom and sovereignty of nations and peoples be preserved. During the meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Sultan.
Following this, Oman’s Foreign Minister Syed Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaydi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a joint press conference. Sergei Lavrov said the agreement was reached to avoid visas for citizens of both countries and to expand bilateral agreements, including cooperation agreements between the Russian Museum and the National Museum of Oman.
Oman’s intervention in the Syrian issue is commendable. We believe that the time has come for Syria to return to the Arab League and that Oman can make a significant contribution to this. Sergei Lavrov also said that the talks between Palestine and Israel need to be activated to reach a comprehensive solution.
Meanwhile, Oman’s Foreign Minister Syed Badr al – Busaydi said the situation in Ukraine was being pursued with great interest. He called on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve differences amicably so that the situation does not worsen.
Oman will support all efforts to make the talks on Iran’s nuclear issue a success. “We do not blame any party for interrupting the talks,” he said.
