Saint Brieuc. Patient Visitors worried about the future of the hospital

They bring a smile to the hospitalized patients and to our elders in the Ehpad (accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people). But they also know how to listen and restore confidence and hope. Visitors to patients in hospitals (VMEH) in Côtes-d’Armor held their general meeting at the Yves-Le Foll hospital, in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor), Wednesday May 18, 2022. The first real meeting of the ten local sections of the association and its 93 members, since the pandemic.

Another axis of the action of the VMEH: the defense of the rights of the users of the health system, with in particular the shutter reorganization or restructuring of a hospital center which can weaken the offer of care of proximity. They find that “The hospital crisis is deep: recruitment difficulties, flight of hospital professionals to the private sector. It ends in bed closures and threats to the maintenance of emergency services this summer. » The VMEH also deplore the lack of general practitioners and specialists in the department.

“The Limits of Volunteering”

The loyalty of its volunteers, including Michel Éouzan, who worked for more than thirty years as a visitor, then departmental president in the 2000s, was underlined.

The afternoon was devoted to training on the theme “limits of VMEH volunteering and collaboration with caregivers”. The VMEH then welcomed Ariane Besnard, director of the Yves-Le-Foll hospital and of the Groupement hospitalier de territoire d’Armor.
