Sales of fully electric ‘Toyota bZ4X’ begin in Latvia

The Toyota bZ4X is Toyota’s first all-new battery electric vehicle (BEV). It breaks new ground with the introduction of the company’s zero-emissions sub-brand “bZ” (“Beyond Zero”) and enables the BEV market to offer true off-road capability for the first time.

“Toyota bZ4X” is not an adaptation of an existing model. It is a completely original model and the first of the “bZ” series cars built on a new Toyota platform for BEV models. In the “eTNGA” platform, the battery unit is integrated into the chassis and is completely located under the floor of the car. In this way, the car has acquired a strong and very rigid structure and a low center of gravity, which also determines the stable and dynamic performance of “bZ4X”. The modular structure of the platform allows it to be easily adapted for use in a range of different types of vehicles, covering both small and larger car segments. The construction and design of the Toyota bZ4X includes aerodynamic elements that increase the driving distance. These include openings in the corners of the front bumper that form smooth air curtains, a fully covered undercarriage, a split roof spoiler, a rear diffuser, and an optimally angled rear window. The narrow grille “bZ4X” has a shutter on the front that regulates the flow of cooling air for the battery and helps to reduce air resistance.

“Toyota bZ4X” is available in six single-tone colors and five two-tone colors, which combine the basic color of the body with a contrasting black roof and pillars. In the interior, the emphasis is on comfort and spaciousness, which gives the cabin a living room atmosphere – a feeling that is enhanced by soft woven material textures on the front panel, lightly matte finish details and a panoramic roof. With the rear seatbacks up and the floor panel in its lowest position, the boot volume reaches 452 liters (VDA) – enough to carry three 82-litre suitcases. The rear seatbacks can be folded in a 60:40 ratio and have a recline function. The principle of “hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road” is underlined by the human-centered arrangement of the driver’s seat with a digital seven-inch instrument and information display located above the steering line – directly in the driver’s field of vision, so that the readings can be read with minimal eye movement.

“Toyota bZ4X” has an 8- or 12.3-inch central touchscreen. The large display is used for the latest “Toyota Smart Connect” system with several advanced functions. The “Toyota T-Māte” complex built into the “Toyota bZ4X” includes the latest generation “Toyota Safety Sense” with preventive safety systems designed to provide even wider functionality and more detailed monitoring of the car’s surroundings and other road users. The “bZ4X” is available in both front- and all-wheel drive versions. The FWD model has a 150 kW “eAxle” electric drive module installed at the front, which develops 204 hp and 265 Nm of torque. The all-wheel drive model has an 80 kW “eAxle” module at the front and rear, and the combined power of the modules reaches 218 hp, and torque – 337 Nm. The best-in-class off-road performance is provided by the all-wheel drive system with “X-Mode” for a safe and stable ride in mud and snow.

The lithium-ion battery installed on the new model has a capacity of 71.4 kWh and has 96 liquid-cooled cells. Each one is constantly and individually monitored for any deviations or signs of damage.Toyota’s confidence in the quality of the battery is reflected in the guarantee that it will retain at least 70 percent of its capacity even after 10 years. The original running battery manufacturer’s warranty is valid for eight years or up to 160,000 kilometers, but with additional maintenance, the battery warranty period can be extended up to 10 years or one million kilometers (from the date of first registration).

The official range of the “Toyota bZ4X” (WLTP standard) is up to 500 km for the FWD version and up to 460 km for the AWD model. Fast charging from the 150 kW DC charger allows the battery to be charged up to 80% in about half an hour (under normal temperature conditions). Using the built-in 11 kW charger, a full charge with the “wallbox” device will take less than seven hours. For cars equipped with Toyota Safety Sense and Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system, Toyota is able to perform software checks and updates remotely. In addition to that, the price of the car includes maintenance costs for five years or 75,000 km, a 10-year “Toyota Relax” warranty, roadside assistance and a running battery warranty.

The starting price of the all-new Toyota bZ4X is EUR 56,500, and the first cars will be delivered to customers in June. Sales of the fully electric ‘Toyota bZ4X’ have now begun in Latvia, making it the first country in Europe to get the model. The car has been met with great enthusiasm from customers and has already been sold out for the first batch. The bZ4X is equipped with the latest in Toyota technology, including Toyota Safety Sense and Toyota Smart Connect, and is available in both front- and all-wheel drive versions.
