After the recently presented Galaxy A7 (2018) with triple camera and fingerprint sensor in the power button on the side of the device Samsung now shows its top model of the A-series, the Galaxy A9 (2018).
The highlight of the newcomer, in addition to the chic and flat metal and glass case in the colors "Lemonade Blue", "Bubblegum Pink" and "Caviar Black" are undoubtedly the four cameras on the back of the smartphone. This is a combination of a 24-megapixel wide-angle (77 degrees, aperture f / 1.7), an 8-megapixel super wide-angle (120 degrees, aperture f / 2.4) and a 10-megapixel optical telecamera Double zoom (f / 2.4 aperture). The trio is also complemented by a 5-megapixel sensor, which takes care of the depth measurements of the subject in bokeh, and should ensure a particularly accurate transition between sharp and blurred image content.
The hardware is supplemented by a comprehensive camera software package. There are, for example, the usual functions such as Pro, Panorama, where only the Super Wide Angle Sensor is used, or "Live Focus" for Bokeh in real time. Added to this is a new scene optimization that recognizes the motifs, adjusts the settings accordingly and thus delivers particularly good images. Even if a photo sometimes goes wrong, because it was blinking, the user gets a hint from the Galaxy A9. This feature is already known from the Galaxy Note 9. As an extra treat, the same 24 megapixel sensor on the front of the Galaxy A9 takes care of selfies, as already used on the back.
Switching between the three main cameras is very easy via a clear control surface in the viewfinder. Only when changing to the super wide-angle camera approved the previewed pilot models some time for the change, otherwise everything went quickly from the hand. The image quality of the Galaxy A9 can only be definitively determined in the laboratory test, but the pictures taken at the event looked really good on the smartphone screen.
Price and availability
Samsung calls for the November available Galaxy A9 tight 599 euros, but in return receives the user in addition to the unique camera department and otherwise an all-inclusive package. The 6.3-inch OLED display in 18.5: 9 format with 1080 x 2220 pixels resolves quite nicely, and the drive is powered by a potent Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with an octa-core CPU up to 2.2 GHz , Also in terms of memory, Samsung shows generous and missed the Galaxy A9 in addition to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of user memory, which can also be extended by a separate micro-SD memory card slot. The equipment of USB-C, LTE Cat.9, Dual-SIM and ac-WLAN is completed.
Only real shortcoming of the pre-series devices: The operating system here was still the old Android 8.0 used. For the simple operation of the in-house user interface "Samsung Experience". The first impression of the top model from the mid-range series is definitely right and we are already curious how the Samsung Galaxy A9 will soon beat in the laboratory test.
