Sarkozy: Anti-Russian sanctions have led to unforeseen effects

Moscow is moving away from Europe and moving closer to Beijing. Anti-Russian sanctions led to such an “unforeseen effect”, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in an interview with Point.

Commenting on the sanctions against Moscow, the politician noted that they are counterproductive, do not meet the interests of Europeans and are imposed by orders of US President Donald Trump. Sarkozy also expressed regret that the policy of economic restrictions boils down to "pushing Russia into the arms of China," RIA Novosti quoted.

The ex-president of France is convinced that it is necessary to improve relations with Russia. Moreover, it is necessary "to imagine a new supranational organization in which three parties would gather: Europe, Turkey and Russia."

Sarkozy also noted that he is in favor of intensified dialogue between Moscow and the European Union, as this will strengthen the architecture of the continent.
