Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations; India welcomed the decision

New Delhi: India welcomed the decision to resume diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. National media reported that Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that India’s policy is to resolve issues through consultations and welcomes the decision of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

India has a special interest in diplomatic relations in the region as there are lakhs of Indian expatriates who seek employment in Arab countries. But he was not willing to mention China, which has already initiated mediation talks between the two countries.

Saudi Arabia and Iran decided to resume diplomatic relations at a meeting held in Beijing with the intervention of China. China is intervening in the issue after previous meetings in Oman and Iraq failed. Through the discussion, it has been decided to renew the existing commercial and cultural agreements with the two countries and to open the embassies.

After 2015, diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran deteriorated. In the same year, the Saudi army attacked the pro-Iranian rebels in Yemen and caused hundreds of Iranians to die during the Hajj.
