KEEL. Successful graduation in the 2021/22 school year: A total of 36,385 students passed their final exams. They leave school with the first general school leaving certificate (ESA), the middle school certificate (MSA) and the high school diploma. Education Minister Karin Prien congratulated the students. “After more than two years of the pandemic and many restrictions in everyday school life, you can be proud of what you have achieved. They convinced with their skills and knowledge”, she said today (June 30) in Kiel. The minister thanked the teachers who had supported the students with additional offers in these challenging times and had prepared them specifically for the exams.

A total of 11,185 high school graduates from grammar schools, community schools with upper grades, vocational grammar schools and vocational high schools have already received their certificates in the past few days. Around 12,000 pupils at general schools have also taken the exams for the first general school leaving certificate (ESA) and 13,200 students taking the exams for the intermediate school leaving certificate (MSA) took part.

This school year, 6,849 pupils passed the Abitur exam at public grammar schools and another 1,993 at community schools with an upper level. The nationwide mean values ​​for the average Abitur grade are 2.34 at high school and 2.52 at community schools and are therefore comparable to last year (2.33 and 2.53). The top grade of 1.0 was awarded 208 times – 192 times at grammar schools and 16 times at community schools.

At the vocational high schools, 1,873 students passed their exams with the Abitur. The grade point average is 2.51. The grade 1.0 was awarded 14 times. At the vocational schools, 470 students were able to celebrate their Abitur. The average grade there is 2.79.

Lower secondary school diplomas
The state average in the three central written exams (English, German, Mathematics) is on average at ESA 3.31 (2021: 3.24) and at MSA 3.34 (2021: 3.08). Pupils with a migration background can apply for both the ESA as well as for the MSA take part in a central written and oral exam in the language of origin, which then replaces the exam in English. The result is included in the final grade, which gives them a better chance of obtaining good school qualifications: This school year, 329 students took advantage of this opportunity.
