Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – The NRW Ministry of Transport is extending the funding of additional school buses to protect against corona infections until the end of the year. The state government’s budget and finance committee agreed to increase the funds made available for this purpose from 33.5 million euros by a further 17.8 million euros, the state government announced on Thursday. The idea of the program: If there are more school buses, the children and young people will be better distributed among them. This means it is not that tight. Applications for funding can be submitted by municipalities, among others.
“The current incidence values are very encouraging. But the corona pandemic is not over yet,” said Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU). “That is why we are also promoting additional school buses at 100 percent – for more safety on the way to school.”
The Ministry of Transport also calls on the municipalities, together with schools and transport companies, “to equalize the opening times of school so that fewer students are on the road at the same time.”
