Offenbach (dpa/lhe) – Hesse’s Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) emphasized the importance of the space sector for the state in Offenbach on Thursday. At the second “Hesse in Space” conference.
According to the State Chancellery, among the approximately 200 participants were schoolchildren from Lich, who developed a satellite together with their teacher. This should fly into space with the US space agency Nasa later this year.
“We see again that the space strategy and its publication just over a year ago have developed many new connections within the space sector in Hesse and with other actors,” said space coordinator Johann-Dietrich Wörner. Wörner was formerly Director General of the European Space Agency Esa.
Several national and international institutions from the aerospace industry have their headquarters in Hesse. These include the European Space Operations Center of Esa and the European agency for meteorological satellites Eumetsat. But also economy Science or the German Weather Service work closely with the space sector.
